Despite its scale, gender-based misinformation must be handled as a severe democracy and human rights issue. Disinformation, when targeted at women, can significantly impact their ability to speak out and fight for their rights. Thus, it doesn't matter how small the gender-based disinformation is.




The Internet offers enormous potential as a space for engagement, activism, and contentious debates. It is not, however, a gender-neutral product. Given that it systemically targets women and treats them as powerless citizens, it must be viewed as an extension of the patriarchal system. 


Bavana Pathak, professor at the Prestige Institute of Management and Research, India, conducted a special session on dealing with gendered disinformation produced targeting women in higher positions.
