About Us

The Foundation for Advancing Critical Thinking in South Asia (The FACTS) is a nonprofit educational initiative to enhance Media and Information Literacy (MIL) education in the South Asian region. The FACTS acknowledges MIL as a significant life-skills required for every citizen in the digital era, regardless of their age and educational background. MIL empowers citizens to successfully navigate highly polluted information and news spheres differentiating “Facts” from all kinds of falsehood. Given the importance of MIL, the FACTS strives to enhance the quality of MIL education in the region, through training, advocacy, research, networking, and sharing.

Our Vission

The FACTS envisions a region where every citizen has control over how they choose to consume media and information.

Our Mission

The FACTS strives to be recognized as a leader in the South Asian Region in facilitating high quality MIL education through training, advocacy, research, networking and sharing.
The FACTS will work closely with Government institutes, educational institutes, educators, and civil society activists and organizations, and individuals.

Media

We define media very broadly. At the FACTS, mainstream and alternative media includes and all forms of functional media.

Education

Education includes tertiary, secondary, and primary sectors as well as both formal and informal education. This includes media training institutes and civil society organizations that are thriving to promote critical thinking in the region too.

Advocacy

Advocacy, for us, is a coherent action to seek recognition from the relevant authorities and organizations to accept MIL as core-life-skills and widely accommodate it in the educational system by providing necessary resources and support for the enhancement of MIL.

Objectives

MIL is an essential tool for empowering individuals, communities, and countries to participate actively in the democratic process. There is a great necessity for individuals to be able to develop cognitive, technical, and social skills and capacities that enable them to critically access, analyze and consume news and information. In light of this, the following are the objectives of the FACTS:

  1. To promote conscious, rational, and mindful media and information consumption amongst citizens.
  2. To provide technical support for educational institutions and civil society organizations in the region to effectively streamline MIL in their scope of work.
  3. To advocate for greater recognition of MIL education at all levels - tertiary, secondary and CSO levels.
  4. To provide technical support and facilitate national and regional research and educational activities around MIL.
